At TDMS, all students follow a study programme which combines qualifications and other activities, and which is tailored to their prior attainment, individual choices, needs and career aspirations. We have four academic pathways:

• Three A Level (or equivalent) subjects – our standard entry offer
• Three A Level (or equivalent) subjects + AS Core Maths
• Three A Level (or equivalent) subjects + an EPQ
• Four A Level (or equivalent) subjects (at least six 7-9 GCSEs)

Any students who have not achieved the required level in English and Maths GCSE are required to continue these subjects as part of their programme of study. Students have timetabled lessons during the week with subject specialists to support them to achieve their GCSE. Please note that our general entry requirements are five Grade 4 or above passes at GCSE, including English Language and Mathematics.

We offer a large range of Level 3 subjects here at TDMS including both A levels and BTECs; however, our programme is designed to equip students with more than just good grades. The Sixth Form programme of study also includes a substantial amount of compulsory non-qualification activity, including daily tutorials, assemblies, enrichment, study skills, study support and of course work experience. Our enrichment programme has plenty of variety for differing interests. It currently includes the sports society, mindfulness, film society, British sign language, creative journalling, peer readers, as well as charity and volunteer work. All of the above complement the academic elements of the study programme, helping to prepare our students for the future as well as developing their character, skills, attitudes and confidence.

We aim to ensure students are given every support in planning their chosen route after Sixth Form education, whether it is to university, an apprenticeship or full time employment. To this end there are a number of ‘next-step’ career and work-related opportunities during Years 12 and 13 such as our annual Careers and HE Fair, industry-specific career talks, Higher Education briefings and university masterclasses. Students also benefit from an appointment with an independent careers advisor and they all take part in work experience for a week in the Summer Term of Year 12 to help better prepare them for the world of work.

All students are expected to strive for 100% attendance. Any student whose attendance falls below 90% will be subject to appropriate disciplinary proceedings which will be decided by the senior leadership team. This may result in a student losing their place in the Sixth Form.
