CELEBRATION CULTURE
We know that the vast majority of our students are fantastic, consistently demonstrating our school values of Ambition, Creativity, Commitment, and Integrity, and they deserve tangible recognition of that effort and hard work. With this in mind, we have a continuous culture of celebration across the school. This includes an online reward shop enabling students to ‘spend’ the achievement points that they earn on items that they told us they would like through student voice.
Achievement points
In order to help as many students as possible to feel a sense of accomplishment and reward for effort and hard work, we have increase the opportunities that they have to obtain achievement points. As you can see from the graphic above, this is on a levelled scale. Students can achieve points through contributions in lessons and around school, and teachers will continue to issue praise postcards, worth 5 points, for those students that have gone above and beyond in lesson. This academic year the senior leadership team (SLT) will be awarding golden values cards worth 8 achievement points. These pocket-sized cards are issued by our 8 senior leaders once a week for a student who they feel has made an exceptional contribution to our community that week or for a student who has exemplified the school values. Students are also nominated for half-termly awards issued by heads of year and heads of department worth 10 achievement points. We continue to issue our termly headteachers award worth 20 achievement points. Finally, we have introduced a CEO award that will be presented in our awards afternoon/evening which equates to 30 achievement points.
Online rewards shop
Our online rewards shop allows students to ‘spend’ their achievement points that they have earnt on a variety of items. These items range from 20 achievement points to 1,000 achievement points! When achievement points are added on Arbor they will top up the student balance available to spend. Students can then spend their available points, however their achievement point total is preserved on Arbor allowing us to track the total number of achievement points throughout the academic year. Items that have been purchased by students will be distributed fortnightly in our Friday student showcase; a morning meeting time designed to recognise achievement and share positive contributions with their year groups. If students are absent from school on the student showcase Friday, they will have to wait until the next student showcase, a fortnight later: purchased rewards will not be released at any other time.
