Emergency CLosures
We are determined to do whatever we can to stay open to staff and students despite any adverse weather conditions or issues with water or power. In the unlikely event that we have to close, we will endeavour to have done the following by 7.00am on any day we have to close the school:
- Notified the local radio stations (particularly BBC Hereford and Worcester and Free Radio Herefordshire and Worcestershire).
- Sent a text message to all the mobile phone numbers of parents/carers with parental responsibility we currently have on our database. Please keep us informed of any changes to your mobile phone number so that we can update our database and so keep you better informed.
- Place a message on our social media sites.
- Place one of the following messages on the website (tdms.worcs.sch.uk) for example:
- Open for all students
- Open but late start (and instructions will follow)
- Closed to all students
Parents/carers can also find out more information by logging onto the County Council Website (www.worcestershire.gov.uk) or calling the Worcestershire Hub on 01905 765765.
The decision to close the school, unless directed by the local authority, is always made in the morning. However, if there is any additional information that we feel would be helpful to share with parents/carers we will update the website, social media sites, and send text messages at the earliest opportunity.
We always do what we can to stay open however there may be health and safety reasons which would force an unscheduled school closure. If we have to close during the day and send the students home before 3.30pm, we suggest all parents/carers nominate a place of safety, which may be your home, to which your child can go if we have to close.
If we have to close during the course of the school day, we will:
- Notify the local radio stations (particularly BBC Hereford and Worcester and Free Radio Herefordshire and Worcestershire).
- Send a text message to all the mobile phone numbers of parents/carers with parental responsibility we currently have on our database.
- Send an email to all the email addresses of parents/carers with parental responsibility we currently have on our database.
- Place a message on the website and our social media feeds.
- Allow all Year 12 and 13 students will be allowed to leave site immediately.
- Allow students in Years 6 to 11 with permission to leave from a parent/carer. Please complete the relevant section on the TDMS agreement form to give permission for your child to leave site if required during an unscheduled closure.
If you have not given permission via our permission form, then we will need to contact you to get permission to let your child leave the school. This will be over the telephone. We will ask any students who have mobile phones to contact their parents/carers. A member of staff will briefly speak to the parents/carers and check that the student can leave the school and make their own way home. We will contact the parents/carers of any students who do not have mobile phones. Students will be dismissed one class at a time once all the phone calls have been made for that class.
- Supervise any students who are unable to make their own way home until they can be collected.
In the event of a closure, students will be set work via email and Edulink One. For closures of two or more days, students will be taught online via MS Teams. Office 365 can be accessed via the students link tab on our website.
