Pupils at The De Montfort School have an option in Key Stage 4 to take a GCSE in Business Studies. The course covered is offered by WJEC and allows the full range of grades from A* to G. The course is a good introductory business course which allows pupils to gain a solid basic understanding of the world of business. The syllabus covers the general business background, marketing, finance, HR and Operations as well as looking at the basics of the economy. The course is assessed through a final examination, worth 75% of the final grade and a controlled assessment (coursework) worth 25% of the final grade.
In the Sixth Form pupils have a choice of two business studies courses.
AQA - A level Business Studies. This popular level 3 course comprises of 4 modules of study, 2 taken in Year 12 to obtain the AS qualification and a further 2 in Year 13 to gain the full A level qualification. The course is a good preparation for the world of work or to prepare for higher education. Pupils gain a sound awareness of the workings of business and will develop their analytical, evaluative, numerical and written skills in response to the demands of the course.
