Media Studies offers an insight into the way the media creates meaning all around us. It offers students the opportunity to scrutinise the information we are presented with every day in our media-saturated culture and to challenge and discuss contemporary issues, ideas and media debates.
The main aims of Media Studies are:
- to develop knowledge and understanding of media texts, audiences and industries
- to develop critical skills and research skills in relation to media concepts, contexts, theories and debates
- to develop production, analysis and evaluation skills across a range of media platforms
- to encourage creativity and experimentation in production work so students can both apply and challenge existing media conventions and representations
