Unlocking Your Child's Potential
PE & Performing Arts Faculty
We believe that the newly created Physical Education and Performing Arts Faculty can play an exciting and leading role in providing dynamic focus for the educational experience of its young people.

The provision of the PE and Performing Arts faculty, consisting primarily of Dance, Drama, Music and PE, can be underpinned with the fundamental aim of providing “opportunity and excellence for all.” The faculty recognizes the significant contribution made by the individual subjects in developing well educated individuals prepared for the future. In particular the faculty also acknowledges that the subjects provide a unique mode of expression which enriches life both within and beyond school.

The linking of the four subjects is logical in that each discipline provides students with the ability to express themselves in a largely non-written format. In addition the subjects uniquely enrich students’ education by developing an awareness of self through a range of experiences. Through the faculty system we believe that students will gain an understanding of how the subjects do not sit in isolation of each other but rather combine to provide the cross transference of skills, knowledge and experiences.

We are a faculty that believes that every student has unique talents that we will nurture, enabling them to reach their full potential. Our staff are committed to providing dynamic, inspirational and creative lessons that encourage disciplined high performers to take risks and become adaptable in everyday life. That staff and students share the common aim of maximizing student potential in a safe and caring environment in which the creative contribution of peers is respected.

Our students will explore involvement in sport and the arts beyond the school gates and make full use of present and future opportunities in the community. Our students are aware that sport and the arts enrich the quality of our experiences, providing rewarding activities that inspire, inform, stimulate, challenge and entertain.

We believe our subject areas help develop the capacity to formulate and communicate ideas and feelings; they enhance perceptual skills through responding, developing and evaluating, and physical skills through control and use of movement. Involvement in our subject areas helps to foster a positive attitude among students by developing a wide range of qualities such as cooperation, enthusiasm, passion, inspiration, tenacity and ambition. We also emphasise that this is an inclusive involvement, which helps students acquire an important sense of belonging as well as building the self-confidence they need to do well and make their first steps towards higher education and employment.

The Physical Education and Performing Arts Faculty will act as a catalyst for cultural development and are a point at which different cultures meet and recognize one another’s worth and diversity. As a centre for the local community we will provide many opportunities for groups and individuals to seek and find such self-fulfilment and awareness.

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to develop their particular skills through the curriculum and through the range of experiences and opportunities that the extended school offers. In partnership with our family of schools and local community groups, we create a culture of learning that is accessible to all students allowing excellence to be achieved.
