Mr Simon Grew
Simon Grew studied at Colchester Institute and Trinity College of Music before becoming a qualified teacher at Rolle College in Exmouth, Devon. He has been an instrumental teacher since 1985 and taught in East Sussex before moving to Worcestershire in 2000 as head of the Woodwind Faculty for Severn Arts (formerly Worcestershire Youth Music). Apart from teaching, he also enjoys playing and performing as a soloist, as well as chamber and orchestral music, playing with various local groups. Outside of music he also enjoys getting outside to walk or cycle, and avoids anything to do with DIY whenever he can! Simon is married with three grown up children.
Mrs Catherine Harper
Catherine Harper is a professional freelance cellist based in Worcestershire. She has a busy teaching list as well as performing in a number of different ensembles, both locally and at international venues. After studying Cello at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Mikael Kaznowski, she gained a place on the C.B.S.O training scheme. During her time at The Conservatoire she studied in France with Arto Noras and performed with the Sundsvall chamber orchestra in Sweden. Her work ranges from chamber recitals to rock gigs at Symphony Hall. She has performed with Blake, Roy Wood and The Proclaimers. Catherine has also provided the music for a number of TV adverts and has appeared on Terry Wogan’s Radio 2 show. Bands she has recorded with include Merrymouth, The Machine Breakers, Bertolf, and local singer/songwriter Deborah Rose. Catherine has been teaching in the State and Independent sectors for over 20 years, with pupils attaining excellent exam results, and many going on to gain university places. She lives in rural Worcestershire with her partner and her 3 children.
Mrs Christine Hodgetts
My name is Christine Hodgetts. I live in Stourbridge and enjoy my drive through the lovely countryside to teach at Bengeworth and Swan Lane (young flute players) and of course at The De Montfort schools, where I teach flute and piano. Nearer home, I teach clarinet and music theory. I play flute in TPO (The People’s Orchestra, based in Birmingham - certainly worth googling!) sing alto in a large choir and play organ in a local village church. When not at work, I love travel, concerts, theatre, cinema and the outdoors in general.
